Better Dead Than . . .

Red America

The little red blog that launched a thousand posts (not to mention my own blog) lasted a mere two days. The Washington Post's Jim Brady comes clean:
In the past 24 hours, we learned of allegations that Ben Domenech plagiarized material that appeared under his byline in various publications prior to washingtonpost.com contracting with him to write a blog that launched Tuesday. An investigation into these allegations was ongoing, and in the interim, Domenech has resigned, effective immediately.
Of the many ironies this debacle has provided, perhaps the strangest is the choice of the name for the blog itself. When I was a kid, Red America had an altogether different connotation. Of course, there are already some deep-thinking hyenas over at Domenech's former home suggesting that the Washington Post hired Domenech with the specific intention of discrediting conservatives ("Wouldn't stun me if the WaPo was in on this in order to try and smear the right"). It's only a matter of time before we come full circle, and they'll insist that this was a Communist plot.
